What are we working on?

Your current arrangement is kept in the journal. A new puzzle starts in Shift Work. More board shapes, patterns, Best effort, and separation rules unlock along On the Job Training.

ROOM TO THINK

Paper pieces. A proper puzzle.

  1. Follow the loads. The table gives directed loads. A pair's importance is the sum of its two cells. A blank means zero.
  2. Spread out first. Drag tiles onto the bench or into the shop. Shift-drag empty space with a mouse to draw a group box, or Shift-click tile centers. On narrow screens, horizontal swipes through safe background space change Bench/Table views. Vertical touch drags pan the bench; two fingers pan and pinch to zoom. Controls and tiles keep their own gestures. Drag any selected tile to move the cluster. Tiles snap to the faint bench grid and to board-cell centers. The outlined cells determine contact on shaped boards; the small cards keep your notes readable.
  3. Make your own notes. Park a tile in the marked inspection bay to edit its enlarged badges at the shared drafting table. Drag the enlarged center back onto Bench to return it. Dropping onto the drafting area parks the actual tile in the same bay, swapping with its occupant. The numbered badges belong to that tile. Click to cycle neutral, green, yellow, red. Right-click cycles backward. They have no prescribed meaning. They stay independent unless you deliberately enable the late-game Network Tiles tool.
  4. Mark your place. Click table headers to highlight rows and columns independently. These are manual review marks.
  5. Bring it together. Fill all outlined shop cells. Holes in a shaped board are not shop cells. Check adds the loads between pairs that do not touch by an edge or corner. Lowest is best. Placement rules, when enabled, must also be satisfied.
What the placement rules mean

Must touch: an edge or a corner is enough. Must share an edge: a full side is required. Corner only: a shared vertex is required, and sharing a side fails. Cannot touch: no shared side or vertex. Cannot share an edge: a corner contact or full separation is allowed.

On square boards, corner contact is diagonal. On hexagons, all touching pairs share a side, so corner-only puzzles are unavailable.

More control: Click one tile, then another to swap them; dragging one tile onto another swaps them too. Click a selected tile, then an empty cell to move it. Group drops return if they overlap another tile. Hold a dragged tile near the workbench edge to scroll. Focus a tile's big number and use arrow keys to move the selection by one cell; Enter or Space toggles selection. Escape clears selection. Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes; Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z redoes.

Saving is automatic in this browser when storage is available. Export a full backup with your profile and journal. Importing a full-profile backup replaces the current profile; older puzzle-only files keep it. Return to best restores your best checked arrangement without changing notes or table marks. Compare with optimal becomes available after your first complete-board check, aligns its reference to your arrangement, and keeps the run open. Generated puzzles are solved exactly; the classic square counts rotations and reflections as one solution family. Other boards report the full number of optimal layouts, including symmetric copies.

MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME

Find your workbench.

Choose a look for your puzzle workspace. Your chosen look follows you through Home, training, and the workspace.

ON THE JOB TRAINING

One lesson at a time.

Choose a lesson or an optional tool quest. Two stars advances lessons; three stars earns a tool.

A NEW YEAR EACH DAY

A year, one page at a time.

No deadline
How the year works

Complete the months in order. Each banks 20 supplies + 10 per star, minus optional arrival distance (minimum 10). Replays never pay twice. Layout and notes carry forward. Table starts an informational count-up clock; there is no deadline. Bring outside tiles in is voluntary and reduces credit by their travel distance. The supply unit changes with your look; its value stays the same.

SHIFT WORK / THE JOURNAL

Good ideas are worth keeping.

Resume your latest workspace, start another attempt, or collect different optimal families. Valid board symmetries count as one family. The latest 60 puzzles are kept on this device.

AT THE BENCH

A little more control.

On a phone: drag empty space to pan, pinch to zoom. Tap two pieces to swap. Mouse group selection and keyboard shortcuts still work.
